About Us :

Under the Indo-Norwegian Development Cooperation, a Programme known as Orissa Environment Programme (OEP) was launched in 1992 under NORAD funding. Various programmes on Environmental Conservation and Education, Studies on Environmental Impacts and so on were carried out under this Programme which lasted upto 2000. When OEP was closed, the infrastructure and the assets like books, furniture, computer, etc. were transferred to the Orissa Government by OEP along with a small corpus of Rs. 91.00 lakh a request by the Indo-Norwegian to continue the initiatives made by OEP.





Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Forest and Environment, Government of Orissa. CES undertakes activities to promote environmental awareness in the State. CES also take up projects, conduct training programme, building database etc. CES is the Regional Resource Agency(RRA) for the National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) and Nodal Agency for the National Green Corps (NGC). So far 7500 eco-clubs have been formed in the state. It is also an Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Centre on the subject - Status of Environment & Related Issues in Orissa under the ENVIS Programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India. CES organizes World Environment Day and coordinates selection of Prakruti Mitra & Prakruti Bandhu every year with the support of Forest & Environment Department, Government of Orissa. And the Director, Environment of the state Government is the ex-officio Director of this Centre. The Governing Body of the CES has the Principal Secretary, as Chairman and a few experts as members.
