As per Central Pollution Control Board, the number of hazardous waste generation units in Orissa is 163 generating 341144 tonne per annum including 2841 and 338303 tonne of recyclable and disposable waste.

As per the survey conducted by CPCB with the assistance of NEERI in 2004-05, the waste per day generation in Bhubaneswar itself is 234 tonne. The compostable part is 49.81% and recyclable part of 12.69%. 4 nos. of landfill sites are there in Bhubaneswar .
