Observation of World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day is the most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

In view of World Environment Day, Centre for Environmental Studies, Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change took up various programmes to create mass awareness among the public.
· Some awareness Raths are moving across the town in three districts like Puri, Khordha and Cuttack for one week from 19.05.2023 to 25.05.2023 with visual display board showing messages on the theme of World Environment Day i.e. “Solutions to Plastic Pollution” to sensitise the common people.
· Actions of Lifestyle for Environment have also been displayed through wall paintings at the CES boundary walls so as to attract maximum public attention.
· E-rickshaws are plying across the prime locations of the city giving audio messages on “Beat Plastic Pollution” for 15 days from 22.05.2023 to 05.06.2023 to sensitise the commuters.
· For the Observation of State level World Environment Day function simple environment-friendly actions are being exhibited through hoardings and digital display boards at the City Bus Stops of Bhubaneswar.
CES also organized an Eco-Model Exhibition on Beat Plastic Pollution. 30 Models from eco-clubs of different districts participated in the exhibition. The students from various eco-clubs participated in state level model exhibition in the morning at 8.00 am on 5th June 2023.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Shri Pradip Kumar Amat.

On 5th June 2023, the CES organized the World Environment Day Function at State Convention Centre, Loka Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.

Before commencing the function, 2 minute silent prayer was observed in memory of the departed souls and victims of the shocking train accident at Balasore.

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha joined through virtual mode and urged everyone to pledge to check plastic pollution. He called upon the participants to make Odisha Single-Use Plastic Free State.

Esteemed Guest, Shri Pradip Kumar Amat, Hon’ble Minister, Forest, Environment & Climate Change; Shri Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department; Shri Siddhant Das, IFS, Chairman, Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority; Shri Debidutta Biswal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Dr. K. Murugesan, IFS, Director, Environment-cum-Special Secretary and Director, CES addressed in this function.
During the function “Eco-club Annual Activity Report 2022-23” and a booklet on “Mission Life” were released by the Guests.

Participants of best three models and the winners of Hackathon competition organised by State Pollution Control Board received certificates with cash prize from Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Odisha. Hon’ble Guests distributed “Prakruti Mitra” awards to 173 organisations. 
Officers and Staffs from Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, Retired Officers, students, teachers and general public attended this function.
