International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies - 2023
International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies aims to raise awareness that clean air is essential for good health and also to promote solutions for improving air quality.
Under the Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) conducted a bicycle rally in collaboration with the EIACP Hub at Centre for Environment Studies (CES), on 9th September 2023.
The rally of about 5 km started at 8 AM from Forest Park and ended at the State Pollution Control Board Office. High School students, bicycle enthusiasts, Officials and Dignitaries participated in this rally.
At first, the students were sensitized about the alarming impact of Air Pollution and our health.
This Bi-cycle Rally was flagged off by Shri Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Dept., Odisha in presence of Dr. K. Murugesan, IFS, Member Secretary, SPCB & Director, CES; Shri Lalit Das, IPS, Director Print Stationary & Publication, Odisha and Dr. Nihar Ranjan Sahu, Chief Environmental Engineer, SPCB, Odisha.
Then, about 200 students and 100 other peoples took out rallies with different placards & slogans. The students urged people “Use Bi-cycles for short distances”, “Use public transport wherever possible”, “Switch off vehicle engines at Traffic Lights & Railway Crossings” etc.
E-rickshaws were plying across the prime locations of the city giving audio messages on “Beat Air Pollution” to sensitise the students & public.
Actions of Lifestyle for Environment have also been displayed through wall paintings at the CES boundary walls so as to attract maximum public attention.
